Egg Freezing Cost in India (2026): What You Will Actually Pay
Dr. Anshika Lekhi, MBBS, MS (Obstetrics & Gynecology), The Fertilife, Gurgaon
Most cost pages for egg freezing give one number and stop. That number is for a single cycle, and a single cycle is frequently not what you need, which is how people end up budgeting for half of what they spend.
So this page works the other way round. Here is what one cycle contains, and then how many cycles your age makes likely.
What One Cycle Includes
Before stimulation
A consultation, typically Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000, and baseline testing. Our cost guide puts diagnostic work at Rs 3,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on what is ordered.
AMH and an antral follicle count come first here, because they predict how your ovaries will respond and therefore how many cycles you are likely to need. Anyone quoting a price before running them is quoting blind.
The stimulation phase
Ten to twelve days of injections with scans every two or three days. Medication is the largest single variable in the whole exercise and our published range for stimulation drugs runs Rs 30,000 to Rs 80,000, driven by your protocol and your own response rather than by the clinic.
Retrieval and freezing
Egg collection under sedation, then vitrification. Storage is then charged annually, and our guide lists yearly freezing storage at Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000.
The Figure That Actually Decides Your Total
How many eggs one cycle gives you
This is where most published advice goes vague, so here is real data. A 2025 cohort of 400 healthy women aged 30 to 41 on a standardised protocol recorded median mature eggs banked per first cycle at the 50th percentile: 15 at age 30, 11 at 35, and 6 at 40.
Why that changes the budget
You will frequently read that you should bank 15 to 20 mature eggs. At 35 the median yield is 11, which makes that a two-cycle conversation for most women rather than a one-cycle one.
So the honest version of this page is: take whatever single-cycle figure you are quoted, then ask your clinician how many cycles your own AMH and follicle count suggest. That multiplication is your real cost.
Where the Money Does Not Go
What you are not paying for yet
Egg freezing is roughly the first half of an IVF cycle. You pay for stimulation, monitoring and retrieval, and you do not pay for fertilisation, embryo culture or transfer, because none of that happens yet.
The second bill, years later
Those costs arrive later, when you come back to use the eggs. Budget for that separately rather than being surprised by it years afterwards.
Does a Cheaper Quote Mean a Worse Lab?
Not reliably, and this is where comparison shopping breaks down.
What varies between laboratories is the survival rate on thaw, the stability of their storage, and the experience of whoever performs the vitrification. None of that appears on a price list. A clinic charging less may have lower overheads or may be cutting somewhere you cannot see, and the invoice will not tell you which.
Ask for outcomes instead of inputs. A laboratory that audits its own thaw survival will quote you the number without being pushed.
What to Ask Before Paying a Deposit
On storage
Ask for the storage charge and when it starts. Ask what the thaw and subsequent IVF cycle will cost in today's money. Ask what happens to the eggs if you stop paying storage, and get that answer in writing.
On the laboratory
Ask the laboratory's own egg survival rate on thaw, as a number for their lab rather than a published average. And ask what your AMH suggests about cycles needed, before you commit to one.
Who It Suits, and Who It Suits Less
The clearest case is medical. Anyone facing chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery likely to affect ovarian function should be discussing fertility preservation before treatment begins, because that window closes.
For elective freezing, earlier is materially better and the benefit falls away sharply after 38. Women with low AMH need a frank conversation about likely yield before spending, not after.
The HFEA treats egg freezing as routine fertility preservation rather than something exceptional, which is the right register: an established option with real limits.
The Honest Summary
Three points of attrition
Not every egg survives the thaw, not every survivor fertilises, not every embryo implants. You are buying options, not an outcome, and the price of those options depends mostly on your age when you buy them.
